Charlotte Jennings is one of my most favorite people. She was the first fellow photographer that I met who encouraged me to proudly declare that I was a professional photographer. It's hard calling yourself a "professional" when there are so many photographers are out there that seem so much better - especially when you are just doing it on the side and barely making a profit. She helped me see that I should be proud of my work and that I shouldn't be afraid to tell people that I AM a photographer. Needless to say, I cherish our friendship and all of the support she has given me throughout the years. Charlotte used to be a full-time wedding photographer, but a couple of years ago, she decided to step away from photographing weddings as a primary photographer, to focus on her family, her love for newborn photography and her passion for Young Living Essential Oils. If you haven't tried the oils yet - you totally should.
Tell us about your family.
I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have one red-headed little boy and a duck retrieving doggie daughter! As a family, you will find us doing just about anything outdoors—hunting, fishing, hiking, gardening or simply just relaxing. My husband is a soil scientist/ hydrologist. I enjoy being an entrepreneur, and our boy wants to be a professional fisherman when he grows up!
What are five things that bring you JOY?
My sweet family.
The relaxed lifestyle of being at the BEACH.
Cicadas singing on a humid summer evening in the South.
The smell of spruce trees in Montana.
Lunch dates with girlfriends.
What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
A marine biologist. Because I wanted to swim with dolphins for a living. Lol!!! Watch out now!
If money weren’t a problem, what would you spend your days doing?
Various things. I LOVE to travel, so of course I would plan to explore Hawaii, British Columbia, Italy, and Ireland. But I also never tire of cruising salt marshes in a boat! So add in all our friends on a yacht and we’d be set!
Tell us about your business and how you got started with Young Living.
Well… I laugh because I didn’t really know I was starting a business at the time. I found myself just loving my essential oils, for what changes they brought for me and my anxiety levels at the time (which is what introduced me to the LOVELY essential oil called ‘Stress Away’). I shared my experiences, and my referral link, and one thing led to another! I just thought I had found myself one heck of a referral program (because it is!) BUT… I also felt a duty to educate those who were following suit. Which has become a passion for me! Living as non-toxic as you possibly can, is a lifestyle that my family and I have been living for years, minus essential oils. The essential oils were just the missing link to so many things!
What do you enjoy most about being a Young Living Distributor?
Here’s the thing… I 100% believe that we were put on Earth with everything we need to survive! And plants are a HUGE part of that. They can be used for so many other benefits, aside from just being consumed as food. And it takes people teaching this information! That’s what I enjoy most.
What motivates you?
Having fun while also being able to help others!!! If those two are covered, I’m at my happiest!
What is your biggest struggle as a business owner?
Well… notice I just mentioned “having fun”… so my biggest struggle would be settling down and handling the “business-y, non-fun stuff” of owning a business, like keeping records for tax purposes. HAHA!
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a green belt in mixed martial arts! I just wish I would have had this opportunity as a child/teenager.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
Being a mother. It’s hard; but OH SO WORTH IT. I was that person that always said I was fine without having children, and I’m SO thankful there were other plans in store for me!
What piece of advice would you give someone thinking about starting their own business?
Don’t compare yourself to other people. We are all at different places, and working at different paces. Social media makes it hard to remember that so many times. And also… create a margin of rest for yourself, away from your business. It’s so very necessary, in order to recharge and appreciate what your business is doing for you!
